Cosplay Prints: The iDOLMaSTER

As a cosplayer, I'm aware that sometimes it's very difficult to find fabric with a specific design, it's hard/impossible doing it or it'll be so ugly handcrafted... So that's why I've been thinking, and I'm doing a series of cosplay designs, and you can find them HERE
Today, I'm showing you these ones from The iDOLM@STER:
The first one is for Minase Iori's Casual skirt. You can use the skirt, adding then the ruffles at the end of it. or you can make the skirt from scratch out of the scarf's fabric.
The other ones are for Snowflake Lilliput's outfit. One is for the skirt, like Iorin's one, you can just pick the skirt and add fluffy fabric at the end of it. The other one is for the sleeve. You can make it out of the skirt, scarf, pillow's fabric. Also, the other items are cute ^^
I hope this helps!!
*Links are on the pics!!

I also have more designs, and I'm doing more, too, so stay tuned!! And don't forget, if you want any design, you can contact me by commenting here (comment wouldn't be public, instead you ask the opposite) or as private message at my facebook page ^^

Cosplay Prints: Darkstalkers

COSPLAY: Minase Iori - The iDOM@STER - Extend: Forever Star

- New year, new cosplay. Hi! xD On December I realized that I didn’t had any X’mas or winter cosplay that I hadn’t already used, and that I had materials for this cosplay waiting for a long time x_D so, I thought, why not? Maybe it’ll be a x’mas event out there. At the end there wasn’t, but anyway, I did the cosplay, so I’m fine with that xD. It isn’t like this cosplay is technically x’mas type, but at least it has x’mas decorations on it (stars) xD

- As you can read in the title, this cosplay is Iori Minase, from The iDOLM@STER, in Extend: Forever Star. I really like this dress, it’s so lovely *-* And I wanted to do it like, since 2011 or so. I made many trials and attempts before this one, and I’ll tell you in each clothing section.

- For this cosplay I used: my hair and my eyes of the character’s colour, 4 stars, white and golden ribbon, 3 buttons to cover with fabric, 4 “button” buttons xD, 1 clip button, several colour threads, boots to cover, velcro, felt, foamie, a headband, hotgun glue, loctite, 3 safety pins, 2 zippers, a petticoat and fabrics: dark blue cotton with shiny gleam, blue and pink satin, white chiffon, yellow and white leatherette, blue lining and a non-skid one.
IMPORTANT---- This is the way I did MY cosplay. Of course, there are easier and simpler ways to do it. No, I’m not telling you to do it like me, neither I’m saying this is the best way to do it. After all, I did some changes to adapt it to my body shape and some minor changes that I felt that would be cute. It bothers me having to write this, as long as this is merely instructive and with good intentions, but it isn’t the first time someone with rotten eyes sees arrogance and evil where it isn’t. Please, STAPH. xD

- The changes: I’ll clarify something in order to avoid a fuss while explaining the cosplay pieces. The stars and the band are yellow, but I made them golden. Why? Because the top’s blue fabric I found was serious business and it looked weird with yellow. I thought it looked much better with golden, so that’s the way it is. I also made the top’s tips longer to avoid some non-desired visual effect :)

- The Stars: This is used on several pieces, and it is important enough to have its own section. I needed 4 stars, but depending on the character you choose, you’ll maybe need 5.
Then, I start. In 2013 I made an attempt of the stars. I made one out of clay, I made a mold and got 4 copies of stars from it. I painted them and all. But I wasn’t happy with them, because they where small and shapeless, due to drying time and the time I was taking them from the mold :S
And, well, on fb, I’m Sparkle Pipsi’s follower. She made this cosplay and shared a shop where she bought some X’mas decorations stars. These stars are clear, hollow, light-weighted, with a ring to hang it and you can open it (and this means you have 2 pieces out 1 star, which is cool, because I just had to buy 2 stars xD) So, here’s the LINK to that shop and I say thanks to Sparkle Pipsi ;-; she saved my day when she shared it, seriously. I was pretty obsessed with finding the perfect star when I was shopping and never ever found one, but this one is just perfect! *-* I’m so glad it exists xD
Well, then. When I seriously started with this cosplay, I did so by the stars. I tried painting them on the inside, so I could use the clear plastic as gloss and protector of the painting, but it didn’t go well, so I had Breakman help me painting them on the outside, because if I ruined the stars on the outside as well, I wouldn’t have stars ;-; and I wasn’t confident with my spray painting skills anymore…
Final. It’s like this. I think I’ll get them 1 more coat sometime. I sealed them in the back with a layer of foamie painted of golden (with loctite. I was afraid any other glue might ruin the plastic or the paint). The brooch one and the headband one have both safety pins to attach them.

- Headband: I used a simple headband that was already white, but I thought it looked more beige, so I covered it with thin white ribbon. I decided to attach the star with a safety pin because if I need to paint it again, to store it, etc, it may break down and this way is easier to paint without staining other pieces. I made the white bands out of soft fabric, instead of white ribbon, because I wanted it to look like the rest of the white fabric I was using on the cosplay.

- Armband: a band of blue fabric and pleated white fabric. I was about using elastic band on it, but it won’t fall anyway so I ignored it xD

- Petticoat: (that is, if I can call this a petticoat??) Well, this is the skirt that keeps the shape of the cosplay’s skirt. It’s important, because it has to show a bit under the cosplays skirt. I bought it (in 2013) for this cosplay, but I used it for Holy Night Gifter earlier… (last x’mas)

- Skirt: I explain this first, because this needs to be done (at least part of it) before the top, because you have to measure yourself for the top with the skirt’s volume.
This skirt has 2 layers of circle pattern. This type of skirt is simple and easy, but having more than 1 layer makes it difficult to place the zipper. So this time I tried putting the zipper on the lower layer and the waistband and I made a flap (like the one in the jeans) in the upper layer, with a pin button to close it. I think it went neat.
I took some fabric I used for the top to make the bias. Bias has to be cut in diagonal, but the fabric I used was a bit elastic, so I took profit of that, and saved some fabric xD
So, also, the long of the skirt should be measured with the top’s tips, but, as I said, the petticoat needs to be shown, so, this time, the petti rules.

- Top: I bought some fabric for this and the skirt on 2012, but I didn’t like it, so when I found a fabric I liked (in 2013) I used it to make tests, to see if the pattern I made worked fine and otherwise change what I needed to change. I’ll show you the pattern, but I think it’s useless, because everyone needs different sizing and anyway I always adjust it better while sewing. You just need to look at the figures, anime and game to see where the pleats are. Cutting the tips in the middle might be easier to sew, but it folds while wearing it, so, personally, I don’t like it that way. Also, the tip isn’t lined with the chest pleating… that’s one more reason to try it other way.
I need a mannequin. It’s so hard to adjust the piece in the back by yourself…
I made the edges with the same fabric, to avoid the lining showing up, because it’s not the same exact colour or material. And then I attached the lining to the other fabric, by hand, just to be sure it fitted correctly. For the buttons I used buttons that can be covered with fabric, and I used the same white fabric from the rest of the dress. Covering buttons hurts.
I made the band with a felt base, because the fabric was so soft it could be difficult to work with it. I decided cutting the band with shape and cutting it in 2 parts, instead of pleating it, to avoid a huge volume of fabric on the chest :/ I hide that with the star xD Well, so I put the golden ribbon in the middle of the felt, and then added the pink satin, and so on.
I made the ribbon with the white soft fabric over foamie. This ribbon isn’t very well shaped on the original, but I wanted it that way, because otherwise it looks messy. I attach it to the dress with a safety pin, because at that point, there’s the zipper, and it would be impossible to open the piece. Also, if I want to wash the top, I wouldn’t want to wash the ribbon with the rest of the top, so this way is easier.

- Boots: I have white boots for other im@s cosplays, so I didn’t know what to do. But I ended up covering other boots I have. I used white leatherette for the base, yellow leatherette for the 4 stars, pieces of blue fabric from the top for that blue area on the sole, white soft fabric for the pleated area on the top of the boots, 4 silver “button” buttons and some non-skid fabric for the sole. The last time I covered boots, I used felt  for the sole and I regret that, because I nearly slip while dancing with them x_D Non-skid fabric is what you’re looking for. So, These boots are weird, where to make an opening to make it possible to put it and take it from the boots I wanted to cover. Because I don’t want to buy shoes to glue fabric to it every time I need specific footwear for a cosplay. So… it’s a bit difficult, but I can fit the boot into the cover by the sole opening that I later close with velcro. Tadaaaaa

- And, well, that’s all. I need to have a photoshoot with this cosplay, but probably it’ll be when weather’s warmer, or maybe in a con. When I get photos, I’ll share them here, on DeviantArt and WorldCosplay, so you can follow me there if you want to stay tuned ^^
So, by now, I recorded the dance “Watashitachi wa zutto… deshou?” with this cosplay, and I also danced it with Erilian few days ago, without cosplay, so here you are both videos.
